Create a new generating unit

This topic describes how to create a new Generating Unit for an existing or a new development.

Prerequisites

• You must be the Participant Authority or Participant Member Participant Member for the Custodian Organisation The Participant ID assigned to the GSA survey.
• You are creating a new survey or editing a survey.
• You have logged in and accessed Generator Surveys.

To create a new generating unit

1. Click Summary Lists and then Survey Details.
2. Find the survey and under Edit/+Version, click the pencil icon.
4. To make your search easier, you can search using the Survey ID or Version number. Or sort any of the column headings by clicking the up or down arrows.
3. In the Site Details interface, complete the following fields and click Add to create and display the unit on the Generating Units interface.
   

Field	Description
Generating Unit Name/Identifier	Enter an unique identifier for the Generating Unit, within the Generating System.
Is this a New or Existing (Registered) Generating Unit?	In the drop-down, select if the Generating Unit is new or existing. A new unit is one not currently registered in the NEM.

NEM Details

Field	Description
NEM Registration Status	In the drop-down, select the appropriate registration status for the Generating Unit.

Technology Characteristics

Field	Description
Technology Type - Descriptor	Select the type of technology for the Generating Unit. The technology type indicates the primary technology used by the Generating System.
Technology Sub Type - Descriptor	The subtype for the technology used at the Generating Unit. The subtype values are related to the selected technology, and change depending on the selected technology type.
Other Technology	If you select Other in Technology Type, enter the nature of technology used at the Generating Unit.

Primary Fuel Characteristics

Field	Description
Primary Fuel Type	Select the appropriate primary fuel type for this Generating Unit.
Primary Fuel Descriptor	In the drop-down, select the primary fuel descriptor. The descriptor provides further information about the fuel type.
Upper Nameplate Capacity (MWac)	Enter the upper limit for the nameplate capacity for this Generating Unit. Nameplate capacity relates to maximum daily quantities (TJ) under normal operating conditions.

Operational Characteristics
Ramp Up Rate	Enter the Ramp Up rate for the Generating Unit.
Ramp Down Rate	Enter the Ramp Down rate for the Generating Unit.
Minimum Stable Load	Enter the stable load limit on the Generating Unit.
Auxiliary Load	Enter the aux load limit on the Generating Unit.
Emissions Intensity	Enter the emissions intensity.
Fuel Storage
Does the Fuel Require On-Site Storage?	Does this fuel type have any on-site storage requirements? Select Yes or No from the drop down.
Are there any other overarching energy constraints?	Any other energy constraints that will need to be considered for forecasting? Select Yes or No from the drop down. If yes, provide additional details in the Description field.
Fuel Cost
Fuel Cost ($/Fuel Cost Unit Of Measure)	The Generating Unit's average cost for primary fuel
Fuel Cost Unit Of Measure	The unit of measure for the value entered in Fuel Cost: Dollars Thousand Dollars
FOM Cost ($/MWh)	Fixed Operating & Maintenance (FOM) cost ($/MWh) Not mandatory, but it assists to enable or confirm the accuracy of AEMO's mathematical models
VOM Cost ($/MWh)	Variable Operating & Maintenance (VOM) cost ($/MWh) Not mandatory, but it assists to enable or confirm the accuracy of AEMO's mathematical models
Start Up Cost ($)	The cost of starting the Generating Unit from cold start conditions Not mandatory, but it assists to enable or confirm the accuracy of AEMO's mathematical models
* Other overarching energy constraints	Are there any other overarching energy constraints effecting the operation of the entire site, such as flue gas composition, flue gas temperature, cooling water outlet temperature, ambient noise levels, etc: Yes No

Secondary Fuel Characteristics

Field	Description
* Generating Unit can use a secondary/backup/emergency fuel?	Any secondary fuel considerations for the Generating Unit: Yes No
* Secondary Fuel Type	Fuel type of the secondary fuel
* Secondary Fuel Descriptor	Descriptor of the secondary fuel: Biogas Bagasse Landfill gas Macadamia nut shells Municipal solid waste Renewable hydrogen Straw-based fuel Wood Wood waste Other
Lower Nameplate Capacity (MWac) of individual unit	The lower capacity of the individual Generating Unit (not an aggregate of units) Enter the lower limit of nameplate capacity corresponding to the secondary fuel within the project scope (if not yet fixed) Applies for new Generating Units only. If the Generating Unit is existing, you can leave this field blank
* Upper Nameplate Capacity (MWac) of individual unit	The upper capacity of the individual Generating Unit (not an aggregate of units) Enter the lower limit of nameplate capacity corresponding to the secondary fuel within the project scope (if not yet fixed) Applies for new Generating Units only. If the Generating Unit is existing, you can leave this field blank
