What Generator surveys is for

AEMO does not publish survey information until it has approved and accepted the submission.

Generator surveys is a National Electricity Rules See Relevant Rules or Procedures (NER) process allowing AEMO Australian Energy Market Operator to collect data from participants about existing and future Generation in the National Electricity Market See Relevant Rules or Procedures (NEM). The timeliness and accuracy of the information provided, is key to AEMO providing relevant and accurate Market information to our stakeholders. This data is crucial for AEMO’s planning and forecasting functions, including publication of the Electricity Statement of Opportunities and the Integrated System Plan. This information helps Market Participants respond to possible future shortfalls in electricity Generation, for example by building replacement capacity.

Participant obligations

There are several obligations on participants to prepare and provide accurate information to AEMO for our Planning and Forecasting functions. You can find provisions relevant to this data collection in section 49 of the National Electricity Law and National Electricity Rules 3.13.3 and 5.20.

On 8 November 2018, the AEMC made a final rule requiring large electricity Generators See Relevant Rules or Procedures to provide at least 3 years’ notice to AEMO before terminating any of their Generators (See AEMC Final Rule).
